UPDATES Morrison & Foerster has added a four-partner litigation group from Mayer,Brown, Rowe & Maw to its New York office. Leading the group is Dennis Orr,who currently represents a group of former officers and directors of AIG,Inc. in an ongoing securities and derivatives lawsuit pending in the U.S.District Court for the Southern District of New York. Orr is joined byThomas Mueller, Grant Esposito and Stefan Engelhardt. Fulbright & Jaworski has added five attorneys from Sonnenschein Nath &Rosenthal to its health care practice in St. Louis. Joining as partners areJames Wiehl and Stacey Murphy. Christopher Kanagawa and Nate Hwang areassociates and Karen Davis serves as of counsel. Also coming on board as ofcounsel is Phillip Rothermich, who most recently worked for Express Scripts,Inc., as vice president, business development. Shutts & Bowen has added four attorneys from Fowler White Boggs & Banker to its new Tampa office. Joining as partners are Alan Higbee, a corporate and securities attorney who will serve as managing partner of the Tampa location, and David Gemunder, who has a corporate and health law practice.Joining as of counsel is Sally Woodward. Andrew Fruit comes aboard as an associate. Hunton & Williams has brought on board a litigation team from trial boutique O’Donnell & Mortimer to open a Los Angeles office. Serving as managing partner of the new location is Ann Marie Mortimer. She is joined by partners Tom Toohey, Belynda Reck, Lisa Brant, Daniel Tepstein and Steve Valerio. The team’s clients have included Pfizer, Conoco Phillips and Lockheed Martin. The announcement of the new Los Angeles location follows the recent departure of one Hunton & Williams partner and another of counsel attorney from the firm’s corporate group in its Miami office. Three other Hunton & Williams attorneys reportedly are in talks to join Holland & Knight in Miami. New partners Baker Botts (Houston): Dennis P. Duffy joins the labor and employment practice as partner in the firm’s Houston office. He was previously vice president and associate general counsel for labor and employment at Time Warner Inc. Kelley Drye & Warren (New York): Two attorneys return to the labor and employment practice as partners in the firm’s New York office-John E. Kiley and Jean Y. Park. Previously, Kiley was a partner of the firm and Park was an associate. In 2000, they left the firm for TechSmart Inc., a multinational technology company, Kiley served as chief executive officer and Park as general counsel. They subsequently launched their own law firm, Kiley & Park, specializing in labor and employment law. Polsinelli Shalton Welte Suelthaus (Kansas City, Mo.): Martin Frost, a former Democratic congressman from Texas, comes on board as partner. In 2005, following 26 years of service in the U.S. House of Representatives, Frost became a Fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and later a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. New arrivals Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart: Four attorneys join the labor and employment practice as partners-in Washington, Alfred B. Robinson Jr.; and in Phoenix, David Selden, Julie Pace and Sharon Jutila. Robinson previously served as acting wage and hour administrator at the U.S. Department of Labor. Selden, Pace and Jutila were previously partners at Kansas City, Mo.-based Stinson Morrison Hecker. Seyfarth Shaw (Chicago): Three attorneys come on board as partners-in New York, Mary H. Fragola (employee benefits) and Nanette C. Heide (corporate and finance) and in Atlanta, Erika C. Birg (commercial litigation). Fragola was previously senior counsel at International Paper Co. Heide was with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham. Birg was previously in the Washington office of New York-based Paul Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. Laterals Burns & Levinson (Boston): Erik B. Cherdak joins the intellectual property practice as partner in the firm’s Washington office. He was a partner in the intellectual property group at Philadelphia’s Duane Morris. Foley & Lardner: Lawrence W. Vernaglia joins the health care industry team as partner in the firm’s Boston office. He was previously a partner at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder of Providence, R.I. Fulbright & Jaworski (Houston): Johannes Gabel joins the international corporate practice as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously a partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. Greenberg Traurig: Jonathan S. Margolis joins the real estate department as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously a partner at Bryan Cave. Kilpatrick Stockton (Atlanta): Bill McMillan joins the financial transactions, real estate and restructuring department as partner in the firm’s Atlanta office. He was previously a partner in the Charlotte, N.C., office of Katten Muchin Rosenman. Ober, Kaler, Grimes & Shriver (Baltimore): William J. Thomas joins the national commercial finance and financial institutions practice as partner. Previously with Baltimore’s Miles & Stockbridge, he served for many years as senior vice president and deputy general counsel of Allfirst Bank (formerly First National Bank of Maryland). Venable (Washington): Serena G. Simons joins the employee benefits and executive compensation group as partner in the firm’s Washington office. Formerly of counsel to Washington’s Bredhoff & Kaiser, she is the co-author of HIPAA Privacy Workbook for Group Health Plans. New counsel Jackson Lewis: Jake Schwartz comes on board as of counsel to the firm’s Atlanta office. He was a partner at New Orleans’ Watkins, Ludlam, Winter & Stennis. Littler Mendelson (San Francisco): Two attorneys come on board as of counsel to the firm’s newly opened Fayetteville, Ark., office-Scott Summers and Eva Madison. They were previously at Wright Lindsey & Jennings of Little Rock, Ark. Elected Gary C. Robb, partner in Kansas City, Mo.’s Robb & Robb, has been elected chairman of the Aviation Law Section of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Wayne Mason, partner in the Dallas office of San Francisco-based Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, has been elected president-elect of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel for the 2006-2007 term. In this role, Mason will serve as a member of the board of directors for both the Defense Research Institute and the Lawyers for Civil Justice. Appointed William N. LaForge, a partner in the Washington office of Winstead Sechrest & Minick of Dallas has been installed as president of the Federal Bar Association, a national group that serves lawyers and judges involved in federal practice.
