AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION The American Bar Association announced that Andrew Sandler has been appointed co-chair of the Consumer & Personal Rights Litigation Committee. Joining Sandler as co-chair is Lois Greisman of the Federal Trade Commission. Sandler is the head of the consumer financial services enforcement and litigation practice at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. The ABA committee focuses on consumer protection and civil rights litigation, including privacy issues, First Amendment rights, and remedies for discrimination and deceptive practices. The committee is also involved in monitoring decisions and legislative developments in these areas and promoting educational efforts on them.
AMERICAN HEALTH LAWYERS ASSOCIATION The American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) recently named Joel Hamme the 2006-2007 president-elect designate of its board of directors. The association provides educational and professional development services for 9,500 health care attorneys. Hamme has been actively involved with AHLA for several years and is a contributing author to its Health Law Handbook and Health Law Practice Guide. A partner at Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville, Hamme was chair of AHLA’s Long Term Care and the Law program for 10 years and has been on its board since 2001 and its executive committee since 2004.
GEORGETOWN BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION Joel Bennett, a solo practitioner, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Georgetown Business and Professional Association and named chair of its Legislative Committee. The association is a nonprofit membership organization composed of approximately 300 businesses and professionals. Through newsletters, networking events, and community partnerships, the association works to attract new businesses to Georgetown. — Nathan Carlile
