The NLJ job index measures the average change in available jobs for attorneys. Five of the leading attorney job posting Web sites (including www.Lawjobs.com of ALM, the NLJ’s parent) are analyzed on the first Monday of each month. The number of jobs that day is compared with the average number of daily jobs posted on those sites in our base period, January-March 2005. The base period equals 100, and the comparison is expressed as a percentage change from the base period. For example, if a month is listed at 105, this represents a 5% increase in attorney jobs available that month compared to the base period.
