D.C. BAR PRO BONO LAWYER OF THE YEAR Rawle Andrews Jr. of Andrews & Bowe and Daniel Collopy of the National Labor Relations Board shared the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year award. The award was presented June 22 at the D.C. Bar’s annual business meeting and awards dinner at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. Andrews spent more than 800 hours last year doing pro bono work, one-third of which was focused on predatory lending and consumer-protection matters for senior citizens and working families in the Washington, D.C., area. Collopy represented pro bono clients referred by the Washington Clinic for the Homeless, the Archdiocesan Legal Network of Catholic Community Services, and the D.C. Bar Pro Bono program’s Law Firm Clinic.
HOMELAND SECURITY ADVISORY COUNCIL William Webster, a consulting partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, was appointed chairman of the Homeland Security Advisory Council by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff on June 29. Webster previously served as the HSAC vice chairman. The HSAC provides Chertoff expert advice and recommendations on homeland security issues. Before joining Milbank, Webster was director of the FBI from 1978 to 1987 and director of the CIA from 1987 to 1991. A former judge, Webster served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit from 1973 to 1978. This appointment continues Webster’s commitment to public service, for which he has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Security Medal.
MINORITY BUSINESS & PROFESSIONALS NETWORK HONORS INFLUENTIAL MINORITIES IN BUSINESS La Fonte Nesbitt, a partner at Holland & Knight, has made the list of the 50 Influential Minorities in Business, compiled by the Minority Business & Professionals Network. Nesbitt was recognized at the Mayflower Hotel on July 21. The event honors diverse, dynamic business professionals who have demonstrated strong leadership in their industry and commitment to their community, business growth, and professional excellence.
