D.C. BAR THURGOOD MARSHALL AWARD David Isbell, a partner at Covington & Burling, received the Thurgood Marshall Award in honor of “his outstanding work toward furthering the public interest and equal justice.” The award was presented at the D.C. Bar Annual Business Meeting and Awards Dinner on June 22. Isbell was recognized for his dedication to civil rights issues over his 50-year career as an attorney. A former president of the D.C. Bar, Isbell served as the assistant director of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in the early 1960s. While in private practice, Isbell has continued to be active in the civil rights arena. He has served on a number of boards of directors, including those of the American Civil Liberties Union and the Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program.
RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE YEAR RAMMY AWARD Krupin O’Brien has been awarded the 2006 Associate Member of the Year RAMMY Award from the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. Krupin O’Brien received the award for its many contributions to the RAMW and its member restaurants. The award was announced on June 25 at the annual Restaurant Awards Gala and was accepted by partner James O’Brien on behalf of the firm in front of an audience of 1,600 members of the hospitality industry.
SOCIETY FOR HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SPECIAL EXPERTISE PANEL FOR EMPLOYEE SAFETY, HEALTH, AND SECURITY Manesh Rath, a partner with Keller and Heckman, was recently appointed to the Society for Human Resource Management Special Expertise Panel for Employee Safety, Health, and Security. Rath is the author of numerous articles on employment and Occupation Safety and Health Act law and is nationally recognized as an expert in the field. The Society for Human Resource Management has more than 200,000 members nationwide. Rath will serve a three-year term on the panel and will advise the society on emerging trends and current best practices. — Ben Sullivan
