AMERICAN FRIENDS OF LUBAVITCH Jay Krupin, a founding partner of Krupin O’Brien, and his wife, Connie, were honored with the Special Friend Award by the Washington office of the American Friends of Lubavitch. The award honors the Krupins for their dedication and service to Jewish causes and the community at large. The Washington office of the American Friends of Lubavitch serves the District as the representative of and advocate for the international Chabad-Lubavitch movement, one of the largest branches of Hasidic Judaism.
GIRLS INC. Kim Keenan was honored by Girls Inc. as a leader and role model for young women. Girls Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Keenan is a senior trial attorney at the law firm of Jack H. Olender & Associates.
NORTH AMERICAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT David Schwartz has been named to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Chapter 19 roster. Schwartz is of counsel in Thompson Hine’s international trade and customs practice. The U.S. trade representative maintains a roster of about 60 international trade lawyers to serve on binational panels established by Chapter 19 of NAFTA. Chapter 19 roster members must be citizens of a NAFTA party. They are selected on the basis of their objectivity, reliability, sound judgment, and general familiarity with international trade law. Schwartz is serving a one-year term, from April 1, 2006, through March 31, 2007.
WOMEN’S BAR ASSOCIATION OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA The Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia elected Tracy Durkin, a partner at Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, as president. The announcement came during the WBA 89th Annual Award Dinner, held at the National Building Museum. Durkin is the first intellectual property attorney to lead the organization. She will hold the post for one year. — Nathan Carlile
