ARENT FOX Deborah Froling has joined Arent Fox’s corporate and real estate groups as a member. Froling, 41, who specializes in corporate law, particularly securities and real estate investment trusts, was a member of Hirschler Fleischer, in the Richmond office. Before that, she did stints in the D.C. offices of Hogan & Hartson and Kilpatrick Stockton. After earning her J.D. from Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law, Froling served as an attorney-adviser to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s division of corporation finance.
ARNOLD & PORTER Michael Raschid, 45, has accepted a position as a partner in Arnold & Porter’s Northern Virginia office. An information technology specialist, Raschid joins the intellectual property group. Previously, Raschid was a partner in the Reston, Va., office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
BUCKLEY KOLAR Joseph Lynyak has joined Buckley Kolar as a partner, focusing on state and federal regulation of banking and other financial organizations. Previously, he was a partner in Reed Smith’s D.C. and California offices. Lynyak, 54, is a member of the American Bar Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee and Banking Law Committee. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
CROWELL & MORING James Chen, 40, has come aboard Crowell & Moring’s natural resources & environmental group as a partner. He was a partner at Hogan & Hartson and, before that, a senior enforcement attorney for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance. Chen, who specializes in transportation law and environmental issues, received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
HARRIS, WILTSHIRE & GRANNIS Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis has announced three additions to its D.C. office. Charles Kimmett, 34, was named of counsel. He had been an associate at Williams & Connolly, where he practiced both criminal and civil litigation. After earning a J.D. from Yale Law School, Kimmett clerked for Judge Stewart Pollock of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Steven Fredley, who joined as an associate, was previously an associate at Jones Day, where he practiced complex commercial litigation, specializing in class actions. Fredley, 33, received his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. Justin Dillon, 31, also joined as an associate. Formerly a trial attorney for the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, he also clerked for Judge David Ebel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. Dillon earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
MANATT, PHELPS & PHILLIPS Claudia Callaway has been hired by Manatt, Phelps & Phillips’ D.C. office as a partner. She came over from the D.C. office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, where she was also a partner. Callaway has defended a number of financial institutions against class actions and advises clients on preventing them. She also currently serves as co-chair of the Diversity in the Courtroom Subcommittee for the American Bar Association’s Trial Practice Committee. Beginning this fall, Callaway, 39, will teach a course at American University, Washington College of Law. She received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
PILLSBURY WINTHROP SHAW PITTMAN Joseph Lanier, 36, has joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman’s D.C. office as senior counsel. He will work in the firm’s public policy and political law practice. Lanier has served as legal counsel to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), the majority whip, and legislative counsel to former Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.). Before that, he was an attorney at Patton Boggs. Lanier earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
SIDLEY AUSTIN Sidley Austin added two lawyers to the D.C. office’s energy practice. William Williams has come aboard as a partner. Previously a partner at Fulbright & Jaworski, he concentrates on representing energy companies in regulatory proceedings. Before moving to Fulbright, Williams, 56, was an attorney for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. James White, 51, who has joined as counsel, had been a senior counsel at Fulbright & Jaworski, where he represented energy companies before the FERC. His areas of expertise include environmental and right-of-way issues. White received his J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law.
SKADDEN, ARPS, SLATE, MEAGHER & FLOM Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has promoted nine D.C. associates to counsel. Louis Greenstein is a member of the litigation department and an expert on securities enforcement and compliance. Greenstein, 34, advises companies being investigated by regulatory bodies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice. He earned his J.D. from Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. William Hollaway, 42, works for the energy practice, advising clients on their filings and proceedings with regulatory bodies such as the Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Heather Russell Koenig, 34, is part of Skadden’s financial institutions regulation practice. She earned her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law. Josh Nickerson works for Skadden’s energy practice, where he represents clients in financial transactions and business affairs. Nickerson, 37, received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Kirk Ogrosky, practicing in the litigation group, specializes in health care fraud and white-collar criminal defense. Before joining Skadden, Ogrosky, 35, was an assistant U.S. attorney in Florida’s Southern District. He received his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. Jeffrey Pade, 36, is a registered patent attorney in Skadden’s intellectual property practice. He earned his J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center. Andy Rickman, a member of the litigation department, concentrates on securities and accounting fraud. Rickman, 34, defends corporate clients against allegations from regulatory agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Justice Department. He earned his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Christopher Ulery, 34, represents both buyers and sellers for the mergers and acquisitions group. He received his J.D. from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Paul Wight works in the energy practice as a regulatory litigator who focuses on restructured electricity markets.
