BAKER, DONELSON, BEARMAN, CALDWELL & BERKOWITZ Sandhya Mehta, 41, has joined Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz as of counsel in the corporate department. Mehta, who will work in the mergers and acquisitions and intellectual property groups, was formerly with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. as general counsel on information technology, intellectual property, and contracts. She obtained her LLM degree from Columbia University School of Law and her LLB from Delhi University.
BAKER & MCKENZIE Sim Seo has been hired by Baker & McKenzie as a partner in the firm’s tax practice. Seo, 43, came aboard from Kim & Chang in Korea. Her practice focuses on international tax planning, transfer pricing, and tax controversies. She advises U.S. and foreign clients on tax ramifications in international transactions, including issues related to tax treaties, withholding tax, permanent establishments, controlled foreign corporations, foreign-tax credits, and dual consolidated losses. Seo received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
BLANK ROME S. Scott Lieberman, 31, has joined Blank Rome as an associate in the public companies and capital formation practice. Previously an associate at Morgan, Lewis, & Bockius, Lieberman focuses on domestic and international corporate finance, representing and advising Fortune 500 companies on securities transactions, particularly on required disclosures in Securities and Exchange Commission filings. He earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.
CLIFFORD CHANCE Steven Gatti was elected to partner at Clifford Chance. Previously counsel, Gatti is a member of the litigation and dispute resolution practice. He concentrates on representing U.S. and foreign financial institutions in Securities and Exchange Commission and Self-Regulatory Organization enforcement matters, ongoing regulatory counseling, and related commercial and transactional matters. He has experience in complex civil and administrative matters and advises global financial institutions on multijurisdictional investigations. Gatti, 37, earned his J.D. from George Washington University Law School.
MCDERMOTT WILL & EMERY David Noren has joined McDermott Will & Emery’s tax department as a partner. Since 2001, Noren, 35, has served as legislation counsel to the Joint Committee on Taxation for Congress. As counsel to the committee, he advised the House Ways & Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and other members of Congress on proposed international tax legislation. He had a hand in the development of several recent international tax bills, including those culminating in the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004. Noren also advised the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the review and ratification of several tax treaties and protocols and carried out international tax investigations and studies requested by members of Congress. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
O’MELVENY & MYERS Robert Plesnarski has come aboard O’Melveny & Myers as a partner in the corporate finance practice. He had been with the Securities and Exchange Commission’s division of corporation finance as deputy chief counsel. At O’Melveny, he advises clients on complex global regulatory issues and a variety of corporate governance and securities-law matters. Plesnarski, 41, received his J.D. from Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law.
STERNE, KESSLER, GOLDSTEIN & FOX Two IP attorneys have joined Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox. Kevin McCabe arrives from Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, where he was an associate. He litigated IP cases ranging from biology to chemistry to pharmaceuticals and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. McCabe, 36, earned his J.D. from George Washington University Law School and his M.S. in applied molecular biology from the University of Maryland. Edward Yee, 48, comes in as a senior attorney, joining from Venable, where he was an associate. He focuses his practice on computer graphics, information security, and biotechnology problems. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Yee received his J.D. from the University of Maryland and his M.S. in computer science from Johns Hopkins University.
WILLIAMS MULLEN Kathleen Holmes, 44, has joined Williams Mullen as a partner in the litigation practice. She focuses on commercial and intellectual property litigation. Previously, Holmes was a partner at Richards McGettigan Reilly & West, handling a variety of business disputes in state and federal court, including appeals before arbitration panels. Prior to that, Holmes clerked for Judge Leonie Brinkema of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
