Three more attorneys are set to leave Patton Boggs this month, but unlike other recent defectors, who’ve jumped to big firms in town, these three — Jeremey Huffman, Darren Riley, and Suzanne Kao — are setting off on their own. The threesome hopes to lure new clients with their lower rates. “We see a need in the market for companies that have a limited legal budget that don’t typically engage big firms,” Hoffman says. . . . Meanwhile, San Francisco-based Morrison & Foerster is making inroads into the D.C. market, bringing on its first local white-collar group from DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. Partner Adam Hoffinger says he was wooed by his former colleague from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Carl Loewenson. Hoffinger is joined by partner Robert Salerno, one of counsel, and two associates. . . . It’s official: D.C.-based Collier Shannon Scott completed its merger with New York’s Kelley Drye & Warren Friday, creating a combined office of more than 125 lawyers inside the Beltway. . . . Bonus coverage from the U.S. Attorney’s Office: It sometimes seems that the Justice Department is run by a cabal of former Eastern District of Virginia prosecutors, but Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty’s office has retained two new counsel from further afield. Joining to assist with national security is Michael Scudder, an assistant U.S. attorney from the Southern District of New York, and Daniel Fridman, an AUSA from the Southern District of Florida.
