LOS ANGELES — Ten Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman Machtinger & Kinsella lawyers will leave by the end of the month to form Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert, a business and entertainment litigation firm in Santa Monica. The new firm will likely consist of up to 15 lawyers, including some from other firms. The Greenberg Glusker attorneys leaving the firm as early as April 17 include Dale Kinsella, Howard Weitzman, Lawrence Iser, Michael Kump, Gregory Aldisert, Alan Kossoff, Gregory Korn, Kristen Spanier, Jennifer McGrath and Gregory Gabriel. “We decided to practice in a smaller environment because we think we can have more fun and provide great services for clients,” Weitzman said. The core group of departing partners originally came to the firm from the now-defunct Kinsella Boesch Fujikawa & Towle, which joined Greenberg Glusker five years ago. Last year, Kinsella brought in veteran entertainment lawyer Weitzman. Former Kinsella Boesch partners Ronald Fujikawa and Joseph Bartlett are staying with Greenberg Glusker. Even though Fujikawa has worked with Kinsella since they were associates at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in the 1970s, he said he’s staying, in part, to keep Greenberg Glusker together as a “viable legal institution.” “I am interested in keeping the firm together as a multidisciplined blue-chip firm,” said Fujikawa, whose clients include Wayne Gretzky and The Sports Club Company. “I think a larger firm fulfills my clients’ legal needs in a more efficient and comprehensive fashion.” Greenberg Glusker Managing Partner Norman Levine said in a prepared statement that the group’s decision to leave is unrelated to the ongoing Anthony Pellicano case, which has put the firm in the midst of an investigation into the alleged illegal wiretapping. Levine added that the departures will not impact the firm’s financial strength —though one lawyer at the firm said the revenue leaving with the attorneys is “a significant chunk.” Weitzman also denied that the ongoing investigation into the firm’s use of Pellicano prompted the departure: “I do not believe the firm is going to be indicted, nor do I believe any lawyer with the firm will be indicted.” Gabriel, one of the departing associates who was approached with the prospect about a month ago, said he’s motivated by loyalty to the partners leaving. “Since I’ve been here, I’ve worked almost exclusively with Howard and Larry,” he explained. “I think those guys have the ability to grow an amazing practice, and it’s a great opportunity to get into the firm on the ground floor.” Weitzman said he plans to bring all of his clients, including Courtney Love, Paris Hilton and Axl Rose.
