The impending demolition of the Stardust Hotel and Casino is good news for one young Las Vegas in-house lawyer. The Stardust, a Las Vegas institution since 1969, will be coming down to make way for a 63-acre, $4 billion development. Michael Mathis, 33, will be managing the developer’s legal department.

On January 18 Mathis was named vice president and general counsel at Echelon Resorts Corporation, a subsidiary of Boyd Gaming Corporation. The company is developing Echelon Place, which will integrate 5,300 guest rooms, a convention center, 350,000 square feet of retail space, and restaurants at the northern end of the Las Vegas strip.
