On January 18 Mathis was named vice president and general counsel at Echelon Resorts Corporation, a subsidiary of Boyd Gaming Corporation. The company is developing Echelon Place, which will integrate 5,300 guest rooms, a convention center, 350,000 square feet of retail space, and restaurants at the northern end of the Las Vegas strip.

“There are very few towns that have projects of this scale and opportunities for young attorneys to make a mark,” Mathis says. “It’s really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take a project from the ground floor to operation.”
