The state Senate on Thursday filled seven Superior Court vacancies, one each in Camden, Atlantic and Union counties and four in Bergen. Five of the new judges are Democrats and two are Republicans. The most well known of the nominees is Lee Solomon, a former Camden County prosecutor and, since 2002, the assistant in charge of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Camden and Trenton operations. Solomon, a Republican state assembly member from 1991 to 1995, graduated from Delaware Law School of Widener College and Muhlenberg College. In Atlantic County, Democrat Nelson Johnson moves to the bench. A former solo, he has been with Hammonton’s Johnson & Bertman since 2001. Earlier, he was with Atlantic City’s Sills Cummis Zuckerman Radin Tischman Epstein & Gross; Atlantic City’s Dilworth, Paxson, Kalish & Kaufman; and Hammonton’s Donio, Bertman, Johnson, Sahli & Greco. He is a graduate of Villanova University Law School and St. John’s University. The new judge in Union County is Democrat Robert Mega of Rahway’s Kochanski, Mega & Galfy. Mega has been with his firm since 1991 and before that was with Bumgardner, Hardin & Ellis. He is a graduate of Seton Hall University Law School and St. John’s University. The new Bergen County judges are Bonnie Mizdol, who runs her own firm in Hackensack; Kenneth Slomienski, a Wallington solo; Edward Jerejian, of Hackensack’s Jerejian & Jerejian; and Robert Polifroni, special counsel to the Department of Banking and Insurance’s Office of Life and Health. Mizdol, a Democrat, formerly with Hackensack’s Oury & Mizdol, has been on her own since 2002. She is a municipal judge in Wallington, Englewood Cliffs and Fair Lawn and in Bergen County’s Central Municipal Court. She is a graduate of Seton Hall University Law School and Montclair State College. Slomienski, a Democrat, has been on his own since 1986 and before that was in-house counsel for Safeco Ins. Co. and Aetna Casualty Ins. Co. Admitted since 1977, he is a graduate of Widener University Law School and Rutgers University. Jerejian, a Republican, has been with his firm since 2001 and before that was with Dell’Italia, Affinito, Jerejian & Santola in Orange. A former staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, N.Y., he graduated from the University of Miami Law School and Vassar College. Polifroni, a Democrat, began his career at Newark’s Conway, Reiseman, Bumgardner, Hurley & Kleinfeld (now Bumgardner, Hardin & Ellis). In 1997, he was a founding partner at Springfield’s Hardin, Kundla, McKeon, Poletto & Polifroni, leaving in 2004. He is a graduate of the Fordham University Law School and Iona College.
