AKERMAN SENTERFITT Akerman Senterfitt has made two additions. Richard Gill, 52, has joined the policy group as a consultant. In his role as a governmental and public affairs specialist, Gill will advise clients on a variety of legislative fronts, including tax, international trade, pensions, homeland security, and appropriations. He joins the firm from French & Co., where he was executive vice president. Jean Edwards, 48, has joined as a partner. Edwards was previously head of the patent prosecution practice at Dickinson Wright, where she worked in interferences, domestic and foreign patent prosecution, design patents, business method patents, opinion work, and litigation. She earned her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law.
BRYAN CAVE Four attorneys and an adviser have joined Bryan Cave’s international trade practice from the D.C. office of White & Case. The firm also picked up an international trade adviser. Lyle Schaaf, 43, has joined the firm as a partner. Schaaf was previously of counsel at White & Case. He received his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law. Albert Lo, 39, has joined the firm as of counsel. Lo received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Corey Norton, 30, has come aboard as an associate. Norton earned his J.D. from Boston College Law School. Kelley Slater, 34, also has joined as an associate. She obtained her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law. Mark Nguyen, 33, has joined the firm as a senior policy adviser. He had worked for White & Case as the director of multilateral trade services. Felipe Berer, 26, has taken the role of international trade adviser at the firm. He was previously with the Brazilian Embassy.
LINOWES AND BLOCHER Linowes and Blocher has brought two new hires on board. Deborah Arnold, 42, has joined the firm’s real estate transactions practice as of counsel. She had been of counsel with Venable. Arnold received her J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. Gareth Schweizer Smith, 29, has joined the firm’s business controversies practice as an associate. Smith was previously a case manager with Court Appointed Special Advocates of Allegheny County, Pa. She earned her J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
MCGUIREWOODS Arista Sims, 24, has joined the Tysons Corner, Va., office of McGuireWoods as an associate in the firm’s real estate and environmental department. She will focus her practice on leasing and other real estate transactions. Sims received her J.D. from the College of William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law.
SHEPPARD MULLIN RICHTER & HAMPTON Rick Chessen, 44, has joined Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton as a partner in its entertainment, media, and communications practice. Prior to joining the firm, Chessen was Federal Communications Commission chair of the Digital Television Task Force. He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
SONNENSCHEIN NATH & ROSENTHAL Kathleen Greenan Ramsey, 36, is the newest partner and member of the communications and media group at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. Ramsey joined from Swidler Berlin and will continue to defend companies in regulatory enforcement actions before the Federal Communications Commission, advocate regulatory policies before the FCC and state regulatory commissions, and counsel clients on a full range of communications and competition issues, including mergers and acquisitions. Ramsey received her J.D. from the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law.
VORYS, SATER, SEYMOUR AND PEASE Christopher Adkins, 35, has joined Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease as an associate in the intellectual property and technology group. He focuses his practice on all aspects of trademark, copyright, and Internet matters. Prior to joining Vorys, Adkins was a trademark attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, where he examined trademark applications from U.S. and foreign applicants for statutory and procedural compliance, and prepared ex parte appeals before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
WILEY REIN & FIELDING Wiley Rein & Fielding has added two new attorneys. Craig Berrington, 62, has joined as a partner in the firm’s insurance practice. He was previously a senior vice president and general counsel of the American Insurance Association. Berrington received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. Scott Delacourt, 34, has joined as of counsel in the firm’s communications practice. Most recently, Delacourt was deputy bureau chief of the Federal Communications Commission’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau. Delacourt, who began his career with the firm, will advise clients on a wide range of wireless and broadband telecommunications issues.
