NEW PARTNERS Alston & Bird (Atlanta): Joe Whitley rejoins as partner in the firm’s Washington office. He was the first person to serve as general counsel to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Whitley has in the past served as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia and as acting associate attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice. Bell, Boyd & Lloyd (Chicago): Bruce A. Rosenblum joins the investment management and financial markets group as partner in the firm’s Washington office. He was previously director and senior counsel at Deutsche Asset Management/Scudder Investments. Katten Muchin Rosenman: Scott A. Resnik has joined the litigation practice as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey. Olshan Grundman Frome Rosenzweig & Wolosky (New York): Two attorneys join the litigation practice as partners in the firm’s home office-Robert W. Sadowski and Jeffrey A. Udell. They are both former assistant U.S. attorneys for the Southern District of New York, Sadowski at the civil division and Udell at the criminal division. NEW COUNSEL DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary: Kevin O’Scannlain joins the government affairs practice group as of counsel to the firm’s Washington office. He previously served as senior counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease (Columbus, Ohio): Bradley A. Smith joins the government relations and lobbying practice group as of counsel to the firm’s home and Washington offices. Smith is a former chairman of the Federal Election Commission and author of Unfree Speech: The Folly of Campaign Finance Reform. NEW ARRIVALS Bingham McCutchen: Two attorneys join the broker-dealer practice group as partners-Samuel Turvey (New York) and Kevin Zambrowicz (Washington). Turvey was previously director of compliance at Morgan Stanley’s individual investor group. Zambrowicz was previously a partner in the financial services group of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carr�re & Den�gre (New Orleans): Two attorneys join the firm as special counsel-Edward B. Crosland (corporate and securities) and Marc C. Hebert (business). Crosland, previously a partner at Cozen O’Connor of Philadelphia, will practice out of the firm’s Washington office. Hebert, previously partner at the New Orleans office of Lafayette, La.-based Preis, Kraft & Roy, will practice out of the firm’s New Orleans office, temporarily relocated to Baton Rouge, La. FIRM PROMOTIONS Nixon Peabody: Stephen Newman, a member of the private clients group who is based in the firm’s Buffalo, N.Y., office, has been named a partner. Schwartz (real estate) and Jerrold J. Wohlgemuth (employment). LATERALS Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld: Lisa A. Peterson joins the investment funds and private equity practice as partner in the firm’s Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, offices. She was previously a partner at Kelly, Hart & Hallman in Fort Worth. Crowell & Moring (Washington): Morris F. DeFeo Jr. joins the corporate group as partner in the firm’s home office. He was most recently managing principal at the McLean, Va., office of Baltimore-based Miles & Stockbridge. Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher (Los Angeles): Stephen W. Fackler joins the executive compensation and employee benefits practice groups as partner in the firm’s Palo Alto, Calif., office. APPOINTED Ellen Lieberman, counsel to the securities, mergers and acquisitions, and investment company practice groups of Debevoise & Plimpton of New York, has been named chair of the American Bar Association Section of Business Law’s committee on state regulation of securities. HONORED Reed Smith has been named winner of the 2005 Thomas L. Sager Award for the Western Region by the Minority Corporate Council Association.
