Spam-maker Hormel Foods Corp. said Tuesday that Jeffrey Ettinger will be the company's next chief executive officer, succeeding Joel W. Johnson, who will retire Jan. 1. Ettinger began working for Hormel as a corporate attorney in 1989, eventually becoming president of the Jennie-O Turkey Store when Hormel bought The Turkey Store Co. in 2001. Ettinger has been president and chief operating officer of Hormel since May 2004.

Since May 2004, Ettinger, 47, has been president and chief operating officer of the Austin, Texas-based company, which along with Spam makes Jennie-O turkey and other meat products.
