AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION Two local attorneys have assumed leadership positions on ABA committees. Judith Miller, a partner at Williams & Connolly, was elected vice chair of the litigation section. As vice chair she will serve on the executive committee and the policy-setting council of the section. Richard Stoll, a partner at Foley & Lardner, was elected to a three-year term on the Council of the American Bar Association Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice. As part of the 12-member council, Stoll will participate in decisions that govern policy-making initiatives.
D.C. COURT OF APPEALS COMMITTEE ON ADMISSIONS Mark Carlin, a partner at Ain & Bank, has been appointed to a three-year term as chair of the D.C. Court of Appeals Committee on Admissions. The committee files recommendations with the court regarding applications or petitions.
MARYLAND STATE BAR ASSOCIATION Linda Schwartz, a partner at Paley, Rothman, Goldstein, Rosenberg, Eig & Cooper, has been appointed chair of the Committee on Ethics for the Maryland State Bar Association. The committee issues written opinions on the proper interpretation of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
NATIONAL COAL COUNCIL Sandra Brown, a partner in the transportation and energy practice groups at Troutman Sanders, has been appointed to serve on the National Coal Council. The council provides advice and guidance to the secretary of energy on general policy matters relating to coal. — Bethany Broida
