Ethics Expert on Roberts Had Pentagon Ties Last week Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) released ethics opinions from two law professors defending Supreme Court nominee John Roberts’ participation in a case challenging the legality of the Pentagon’s military trials at Guant�namo Bay. One professor, though, may have his own conflict of interest. • McKenna Long & Albridge Hires New Partner Jason Klitenic, the former deputy general counsel at the Department of Homeland Security, plans to join McKenna Long & Albridge as a partner in September. • Former Office Manager Pleads Guilty to Bank Fraud Patricia Campblin, who worked at Krooth & Altman, was accused of stealing more than $30,000 from the 24-lawyer real estate firm over the course of a year. • Lawyer Cashes in on His ‘Chips’ This past month, Ross, Dixon & Bell senior partner Stuart Ross, had his work showcased in two magazines. That is, his work as an owner of a potato chip company. • Conservative Tort Reform Group Calls for More Lawsuits That was the theme of an online seminar last week by the Washington Legal Foundation. The group is now advocating for a new type of litigation: shareholder suits against plaintiff lawyers famous for bringing shareholder suits. • D.C. Court of Appeals Upholds Award in Pool Accident Case In an Aug. 11 opinion, the D.C. Court of Appeals affirmed a 2003 jury award in which the D.C. government must pay $5 million to a boy injured in a diving accident at a public pool.
