SAN FRANCISCO Thomas Brown has joined Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudy as of counsel. Brown, who was the former city attorney of Napa, graduated from Hastings College of the Law in 1982. Ropes & Gray has added partner Brian Erb to its San Francisco office. Erb comes to the firm from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. He is a 1989 graduate of Willamette University College of Law. Helen Karr, a legal research expert for the State Bar of California’s public education program, has received the 2005 Spirit of Service award. Given by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the award recognized Karr’s work fighting investment fraud aimed at senior citizens. The Bar Association of San Francisco received the American Bar Association’s Partnership Award for its efforts to promote diversity. BASF was recognized for its “Goals and Timetables for Minority Hiring and Advancement,” which sets target dates and corresponding percentages for recruitment of minority lawyers. SOUTH BAY GCA Law Partners of Mountain View has added Amiram Givon and Tracy Tierney to the benefits, compensation and ERISA group. Both come to the firm from Sideman & Bancroft. Givon, who joins GCA as partner, received his LL.M from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1987 and J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in 1979 Tierney, who joins the firm as of counsel, is a 1997 graduate of University of Miami School of Law. SACRAMENTO Of counsel Craig Wilson and associates Stacy Gillespie and Lilly Santaniello have joined Stoel Rives. Wilson was previously chief counsel of the California State Water Resources Control Board. He is a 1969 graduate of UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law. Gillespie, who comes to the firm from Livingston & Mattesich, received her J.D. from McGeorge School of Law at University of the Pacific in 2002. Santaniello graduated from Hastings College of the Law in 2004, where she was an associate editor of the West-Northwest Journal of Environmental Law and Policy. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman Machtinger & Kinsella has added an associate, Silvia Saucedo, to the firm’s real estate and land use practice in Los Angeles. A former commissioner for the Department of Water and Power and the Los Angeles Police Commission, Saucedo graduated from University of Washington School of Law in 1998. Thomas Cleary has joined Alschuler Grossman Stein & Kahan as a partner in the transactional department in Santa Monica. Cleary, who was formerly with Bingham McCutchen, is a 1989 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law.
