After a long and hard battle, the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law received full accreditation from the American Bar Association last week. “It’s a very, very exciting time in our lives,” says Katherine “Shelley” Broderick, dean of the law school, which was founded in 1972. Although it came close to approval in 2003, the ABA withheld accreditation due to its low bar-passage rate, which then stood below 50 percent. Now, with the ABA’s full stamp of approval, Broderick says the school finally has time to focus on other goals, such as constructing its own building on the Northwest D.C. campus.
