The District’s two largest home-grown firms continued their expansion efforts last week. On Aug. 3, Hogan & Hartson announced it was hanging its shingle in Hong Kong after it lured corporate lawyer Mao Tong from the local office of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey. The firm also beefed up in Beijing, hiring Roger Peng from Morrison & Foerster. The new office is the third that Hogan has opened in China since 2002, giving it 12lawyers in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. The expansion comes just weeks after the firm shuttered its office in Prague, a move chairman J. Warren Gorrell attributes to unfavorable “market dynamics” in the Czech capital. Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr followed Hogan on Aug. 4, announcing it had added three lawyers to its Palo Alto, Calif., office by again raiding Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Joining the firm is corporate partner Rod Howard and counsels Peter Buckland and Joseph Wyatt. That office was founded three months ago by Curtis Mo, a corporate partner who had fled Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison’s collapse for Weil, Gotshal with Howard, Buckland and Wyatt two and a half years ago.
