AMERICAN JEWISH COMMITTEE Andrew Marks, a partner at Crowell & Moring, has received the American Jewish Committee’s 2005 Judge Learned Hand Award. The award is presented to a legal professional who demonstrates dedication to the American legal tradition and the spirit of civic activism. GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW Stephen Kunin, special counsel at Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, has been named director of the J.D. and LL.M. programs in intellectual property law at George Mason University School of Law. As special counsel, Kunin focuses on expert witnesses, consulting, and legal opinions. HOMELAND SECURITY POLICY INSTITUTE Brian Finch, an associate in McKenna Long & Aldridge’s government affairs practice, has been named a senior fellow at the Homeland Security Policy Institute. Finch will write policy papers and work on homeland security projects. MILLER & CHEVALIER Lara Birkes, an international economic specialist at Miller & Chevalier has won a one-year Fulbright scholarship to study the impact of the United States-Morocco Free Trade Agreement on the Moroccan economy. Birkes, who works with the international trade practice group, will leave for Morocco on Aug. 1. NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS The Legal Foundation of the National Federation of Independent Business has added four members to its advisory board: Susan Dudley, director of the Regulatory Studies Program at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University; Cameron Findlay, executive vice president and general counsel of the Aon Corp.; Sherman “Tiger” Joyce, president of the American Tort Reform Association; and James Wickett, counsel, Hogan & Hartson. The new board members will join the nine current members to help the foundation choose cases to pursue and to recommend topics for legal advisory material for small-business owners. PEPPER HAMILTON George Lehner, a partner in the D.C. office of Pepper Hamilton, has been named to the firm’s executive committee.
