Despite taking on a consistently heavy caseload, Nancy Rafuse remains an undefeated trial lawyer in both jury and nonjury cases. She co-founded Atlanta’s Ashe, Rafuse & Hill in 2003 with Lawrence Ashe Jr., and has held the position of managing partner from the beginning. Since then, she has expanded the firm to 25 lawyers and continues to recruit legal talent. She is frequently retained as defense counsel in large employment class actions, most recently for Johnson & Johnson and for food service provider Sodexho Inc., which are still ongoing. She was recently lead counsel for the Cracker Barrel restaurant chain in a nationwide race discrimination case brought by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, lead defense counsel for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in two nationwide race discrimination class actions and lead defense counsel for Rite Aid Corp. in an employment dispute. She was co-counsel in two successful jury trials for restaurant chain Waffle House this year. Rafuse has also tried several cases for plaintiffs, including a pregnancy discrimination suit against an Applebee’s franchise, which resulted in a $1.8 million jury verdict, and in a Title IX case against Louisiana State University. Prior to forming Ashe Rafuse, she was a partner at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker and chairwoman of its Atlanta office’s employment law department.
