Robert Wick has helped negotiate several multibillion-dollar cases for his firm over the last two years, recently earning a $53 million arbitration award in New Skies Satellites v. Astrium SAS-a panel-arbitrated claim that he co-counseled for communications services provider New Skies Satellites. He was a visible member of the firm’s team during the case, examining half the witnesses during a two-week hearing with a panel of arbitrators. In 2003, Wick successfully defended Bank One Corp. in an antitrust class action, In re Foreign Currency Conversion Fee Antitrust Litigation, avoiding a billion-dollar judgment sought by the plaintiffs. The case alleged that several credit card companies had illegally fixed conversion rates in foreign exchange prices. Currently, Wick serves as co-lead counsel for International Business Machines Corp. in a pending employee benefits class action. He helped the company develop a legal strategy in the complex case, dealing with 200,000 current and former employees seeking $6 billion in damages from IBM’s pension plan. As vice chairman of the firm’s litigation group, he oversees 200 employees. He also serves as co-chairman of the firm’s professional responsibility committee. In the 1990s, Wick also won a pro bono case for Johnny Ray Chandler, a prisoner threatened by a guard.
