Christopher Hewitt specializes in corporate and securities law, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, in the Cleveland office of Jones Day. Hewitt recently represented Federated Department Stores Inc. in its $17 billion merger with The May Department Stores Co., his largest deal so far. Among his other big-ticket deals are his representation of Galileo International in its $3.4 million acquisition by Cendant Corp.; National City Corp. in its sale of National Processing Inc. to Bank of America Corp. for $1.1 billion and its $7.1 billion acquisition of First of America Bank Corp.; R.H. Donnelley Corp. in its $2.23 billion acquisition of Sprint Corp.’s directory publishing business and related financing; Ryder System Inc. in its $145 million acquisition of Ruan Leasing Co. and in Ryder’s $105 million acquisition of General Car and Truck Leasing System; American Greetings Corp. in its $175 million acquisition of Gibson Greetings Inc.; and plastics maker M.A. Hanna Co. in its $564 million merger with The Geon Co., among many others. Hewitt’s other clients include American Greetings, Axsys Technologies, Diebold Inc., Federated Department Stores, National City, Penton Media Inc. and Ryder System. Hewitt has also worked on spinoffs, primary and secondary equity offerings and private placements of preferred stock.
