Firm promotions Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott (Pittsburgh): Nine lawyers have been named equity members. Those newly promoted are: Ronald S. Gellert (bankruptcy and creditors’ rights); Timothy Q. New arrivals Baker & McKenzie: Jos� M. de Lasa, former executive vice president and general counsel of Abbott Laboratories, has joined the firm as a partner based in Chicago, with a future relocation planned to its New York office. He focuses on domestic and cross-border needs of Fortune 1,000 companies, particularly those in the pharmaceutical and health care industries. Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe: The firm’s San Diego office has been bolstered by the arrival of five intellectual property specialists from Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker: Shareholder Colbert Stuart, associates Matt Lapple and Nicole Cunningham, and senior patent specialists Robert Palmer and Laura Collins are the newcomers. Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman: Mark Limardo has joined as a partner, resident in New York. Also coming aboard in New York are partners Robert McLaughlin, Marilyn Selby Okoshi and Morris N. Simkin, along with associate Jonathan J. Ching. Patricia L. Levy, special counsel, has signed on with the firm’s Chicago office. Klett Rooney Lieber & Schorling (Pittsburgh): Seven lawyers, to be based in the home office, have joined the firm from Dickie McCamey & Chilcote of Pittsburgh. Joining are shareholders Eugene A. Giotto, S. Manoj Jegasothy, Paul S. Mazeski and Jeffrey R. Wilson, and associates John G. Ebken, Susan J. Maratta and Marc T. Thirkell. Maidman and Mittelman (New York): Stuart A. Jackson, whose practice focuses on complex corporate, real estate and construction litigation, is a new partner at the real estate law firm. He is accompanied by associates F. Lloyd Garten and Kalanit (Kee Kee) Oded. Powell Goldstein (Atlanta): Sidney Summers Welch has been added to the firm’s health care practice as a partner. She is active in community health care initiatives, serves on the board of the Georgia Cancer Foundation and works with various local, state and national medical societies. New counsel Buckley Kolar (Washington): Gerald P. Hurst, former deputy general counsel with Bank of America, has joined the firm as counsel. He advises clients on regulatory, transactional and legislative matters. Prior to his stint at Bank of America, he served on the Federal Reserve Board. Dewey Ballantine (New York): Suzanne Jaffe Bloom has joined the firm as counsel in the New York office’s litigation department. She represents institutional, corporate and individual clients in white-collar criminal and regulatory proceedings, and complex litigation. Dykema Gossett (Detroit): Frank Dunne has joined the firm as senior counsel, following a 30-year stint as a marketing and sales executive, and as a member of the legal staff of General Motors Corp., where he served as principal trade regulation attorney. His area of focus will be litigation management and strategy. Appointed Earl F. Martin, the author of nearly two dozen publications and former associate dean at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, has been named to serve as dean of Gonzaga University School of Law, effective July 1. The law school at Spokane, Wash.’s Gonzaga was established in 1912. Jill Sarnoff Riola, a Baker & Hostetler intellectual property partner based in Orlando, Fla., has been appointed to the panel of neutrals of the International Trademark Association. She also received a recent appointment to the federal panel of mediators for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. New subsidiary Bryan Cave: Bryan Cave Strategies LLC has been established to provide strategic corporate consulting services in public policy and government affairs. Steve Elmendorf, former senior advisor to House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt, and Jack Oliver, advisor and strategist for Bush-Cheney ’04, will lead the group, which will have headquarters in Washington and St. Louis. New office Drinker Biddle & Reath (Philadelphia): The firm has opened a new Chicago office focusing on national class actions, products liability and complex litigation.
