GAYLAW GAYLAW, a nonpartisan bar association serving gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender attorneys, law students, and legal professionals in the national capital area, has new officers and directors. Officers are appointed by the board of directors; directors are elected by members or appointed by the board. The following individuals have been appointed: Sharra Greer and Mark Herzog were named co-presidents. Greer is the director of law and policy for the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. Herzog is the assistant director of the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program, where he directs several legal clinics that provide advice and representation to low-income people in the District. Allen Orr Jr. was named treasurer. He is an associate in the international practice group at Baker & McKenzie and specializes in immigration law. W. David Young, an attorney with U.S. AID, the government agency providing U.S. economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide, was named secretary. The following were elected directors: Sharon Debbage Alexander serves as counsel for law and policy at the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. Jeremy Brumbelow works at the U.S. Department of Justice defending tort suits brought against the United States and its employees. Peter Glazer practices in the area of HIV/AIDS advocacy with Legal Services of Northern Virginia Inc. Leslie Hill is an associate in the intellectual property practice group of Arnold & Porter. Woody Peterson is a partner at Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky and is a member of the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution group. Susan Podolsky is a partner at Jenner & Block and a member of the firm’s litigation practice. She has tried cases in federal courts around the country. Adam Strayer is an attorney in the Bureau of Competition at the Federal Trade Commission. Kara Suffredini is a legislative lawyer for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Eric K.M. Yatar is an attorney for the Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, practicing in the area of enforcement. INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES The International Association of Women Judges, a nonprofit organization with more than 4,000 members from 86 nations, honored Marzia Basel, founder and director of the Afghan Women Judges Association, and Zakia Hakki, the first woman judge in Iraq. Basel and Hakki were being recognized for their efforts to pioneer international human rights.
