Firm promotions Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott: Three attorneys have been elected to the partnership-in Irvine, Calif., Michael W. Shonafelt (land use); in Los Angeles, Byron P. Gee (environmental); and in Sacramento, Calif., Timothy J. Aspinwall (health care). Sullivan & Worcester (Boston): Two attorneys have been named partners in the firm’s home office-Howard E. Berkenblit (corporate) and John M. Steiner (real estate). New arrivals Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld: Two attorneys join the investment funds and private equity practice as partners in the firm’s New York office-Mark H. Barth and Daniel J. Eisner. Barth was previously a partner at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle of New York. Eisner was previously a partner at Kirkland & Ellis of Chicago. Alston & Bird (Atlanta): Tom Daschle, former United States Senate Democratic leader, has come aboard as special policy advisor in the firm’s legislative and public policy group. Based in Washington, Daschle joins a department that includes several high-profile former government officials, including former U.S. Senator and Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole. Greenberg Traurig: Bruce A. Harris joins the corporate and securities department as of counsel to the firm’s Florham Park, N.J., office. He was previously counsel to Riker, Danzig, Sherer, Hyland & Perretti of Morristown, N.J. Hiscock & Barclay (Syracuse, N.Y.): Linda J. Clark joins the litigation practice as partner in the firm’s Albany, N.Y., office. She was previously a partner at Albany firm Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde. Holland & Knight: Donald A. Goldsmith joins the private wealth services’ estate planning group as partner in the firm’s Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., and New York offices. He was previously a partner at New York-based Shearman & Sterling’s private client group. Jaeckle Fleishmann & Mugel (Buffalo, N.Y.): The partnership has added to its ranks Robert W. Patterson, who joins the firm’s employee benefits practice group. Previously, he had a three-year stint as senior counsel to Syracuse, N.Y.-based Bond Schoeneck & King, where he headed the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) practice for the Buffalo office. King & Spalding (Atlanta): Michael M. Gordon joins the litigation practice as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously a partner in the litigation group of New York’s Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. Manatt, Phelps & Phillips (Los Angeles): Benjamin G. Shatz joins the litigation practice as counsel to the firm’s home office. He was previously of counsel to Reed Smith’s Los Angeles office. Morgan, Lewis & Bockius: Two attorneys join the litigation practice as partners in the firm’s Dallas office-Jerry R. Selinger and J. Pat Heptig. They were both previously partners at Dallas’ Jenkens & Gilchrist. Pillsbury Winthrop: Dulcie Brand joins the corporate and securities practice in the firm’s Los Angeles office. She was previously a partner at Jones Day. Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis (Philadelphia): Scott J. Wenner joins the labor and employment practice as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously co-chairman of the international practice group at the New York office of San Francisco’s Littler Mendelson. White & Case: Scott M. Zemser joins the bank finance and capital markets practice as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously head of the banking and institutional finance group at the New York office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. Wiley Rein & Fielding (Washington): Edward P. Faberman, executive director of the Air Carrier Association of America and a 35-year veteran of the industry, has signed on as a partner. He arrives from Chicago-based Ungaretti & Harris with a focus on representing aviation clients on a variety of business, legislative and regulatory issues. Firm management Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe: Matthew L. Larrabee has been elected chairman of the firm, succeeding Barry S. Levin for a three-year term. Larrabee, whose practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, has been with Heller Ehrman since 1980. New practice group Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson (New York): A corporate real estate group has been formed to serve the firm’s national and international corporate and real estate clients. Partner Steven Scheinfeld, a 20-year real estate veteran, will lead the group. Elected Andrew C. Greenberg, a patent lawyer with significant experience in the computer industry, has been elected to the American Law Institute. He presently is a partner at the Tampa, Fla., firm of Carlton Fields. Appointed Lisa J. Sotto, a partner in the privacy and information management practice of Richmond, Va.’s Hunton & Williams, has been appointed to the Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee of the Department of Homeland Security. The 20-member committee will advise U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff on issues affecting individual privacy. Honored Winston & Strawn of Chicago has been recognized by the New York Urban League for outstanding accomplishments in diversity at the organization’s annual Champions of Diversity awards break-fast.
