ORRICK LOSES TRIO TO WHITE & CASE After poaching Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe’s William Sloan Coats III last month, White & Case has nabbed three more for its Palo Alto office. On Tuesday, Orrick’s Heidi Keefe and Mark Weinstein joined White & Case as partners, and Mark Lambert joined as a senior associate. “This is just an exciting opportunity to help grow [the] Palo Alto office of a global law firm,” said Keefe. Keefe, a patent litigator, was co-chair of training and development for the firm’s IP practice and helped open Orrick’s Taipei office. She said she also looks forward to working with lawyers in White & Case’s telecommunications and space law practice because she was an astrophysics major in college. Weinstein, who focuses on patent and trade secret litigation for technology companies, once worked as a professional software engineer. Lambert also has a litigation practice, including representation of technology clients in trade secret, patent and copyright disputes. White & Case’s Palo Alto managing partner, Steven Hemminger, said the additions bring his office to 18 lawyers. He’s expecting three more associates to join by the end of the summer. Combined, the firm has about 50 lawyers in San Francisco and Palo Alto. “We opened in ’99 and continue to have deliberate growth,” he said. “We refused to hire for bodies and [instead] look for top-quality people.” — Marie-Anne Hogarth
