AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION The American Bar Association Administrative Law Section has named two fellows for 2004. Judge Susan Braden of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and Neil Eisner, assistant general counsel for regulation and enforcement at the U.S. Department of Transportation, both received the distinction at the section’s fall conference. ANTITRUST MODERNIZATION COMMISSION Bobby Burchfield, co-partner in charge of McDermott Will & Emery’s D.C. office, has been appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a commissioner on the Antitrust Modernization Commission. He replaces Deborah Majoras, who resigned as a commissioner after her appointment as chair of the Federal Trade Commission. DEBEVOISE & PLIMPTON Jeffrey Cunard has been named managing partner of the D.C. office of Debevoise & Plimpton. Cunard specializes in international telecommunications and intellectual property. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE MEDAL FOR DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE Theodore Olson, a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and former solicitor general of the United States, received the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service. The medal is the highest civilian public service award presented by the Defense Department for distinguished service to the department. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld presented the award to Olson at a ceremony at the Pentagon on Jan. 5. NATIONAL BAR ASSOCIATION Kendal Tyre, a partner and diversity action committee co-chair at Nixon Peabody, has been appointed chair of the National Bar Association’s Corporate Diversity Initiative Task Force. At the end of his one-year tenure, Tyre will publish a report on the program and outline the task force’s views on best practices. TAX ANALYSTS Pamela Olson and Larry Langdon have been named to the board of directors of Tax Analysts, a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to help the country tax its citizens fairly, simply, and efficiently. Olson, a former assistant treasury secretary for tax policy, is currently a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Langdon was the first commissioner of the IRS’s Large and Midsize Business Division. Currently, he is a partner at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. TRADEMARK PUBLIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE Kathleen Cooney-Porter, a partner in the trademark and copyright department at Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, has been appointed by Secretary of Commerce Don Evans to the Trademark Public Advisory Committee of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
