AMERICAN LAW INSTITUTE Elizabeth Taylor, a partner at Zuckerman Spaeder, has been elected to the American Law Institute. ALI is an academic organization composed of judges, practicing lawyers, and legal scholars from the United States and some foreign countries. Members are responsible for developing and publishing various restatements of the law, model codes, and other legal reform proposals. COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE WOMEN Janis Schiff, a partner at Holland & Knight, has recieved the D.C. CREW Outstanding Achievement Award from the D.C. chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women. CREW is a nationwide network of female commercial real estate professionals. The group’s core purpose is to advance the success of women in commercial real estate. D.C. APPLESEED CENTER The D.C. Appleseed Center for Law and Justice has elected two new members to its board of directors. The new members are Patricia Brannan, a partner at Hogan & Hartson, and Katherine Broderick, dean of the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law. D.C. Appleseed is an independent nonprofit advocacy group that brings together volunteer teams of attorneys and other experts to identify serious local issues, conduct research, and develop reasoned recommendations for systemic improvement. KING & SPALDING King & Spalding has named Graciela Rodriguez, a partner in the D.C. office, to a three-year term on the firm’s policy committee. Rodriguez is head of the firm’s special matters practice. The policy committee is responsible for the firm’s policies, strategic initiatives, and the overall enhancement of the firm. LICENSING EXECUTIVES SOCIETY, GREATER D.C. CHAPTER Raymond Van Dyke, a partner in the Washington office of Nixon Peabody, has been named chair of the Greater Washington D.C. Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society. Van Dyke focuses his practice on technology and intellectual property counseling, procurement, licensing, and litigation in federal courts and at the U.S. International Trade Commission. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES Deborah Israel, a partner in the business law litigation group at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, has been named to the resource board of the National Association of Women Judges. The board works with the leadership and staff of the association to raise judicial awareness about key issues. It also offers advice to the association on operations and judicial education projects within members’ areas of expertise. THOMAS JEFFERSON CENTER FOR THE PROTECTION OF FREE EXPRESSION Georgetown University Law Center professor David Cole has received the William J. Brennan Jr. Award. The award, named in honor of the late Supreme Court justice, recognizes individual or group commitment to free expression. The Charlottesville, Va.-based Thomas Jefferson Center gives the award to an at least once every five years.
