COCHRAN & OWEN Christopher Tate, 40, has joined Cochran & Owen as an associate in the trusts and estates practice. He’ll focus primarily on tax matters and estate planning. Previously, Tate was an associate at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. He received his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE Jenny Wu has joined the Justice Department’s Community Oriented Policing Services Office as an associate general counsel. Most recently, Wu, 37, was of counsel at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. GARDNER CARTON & DOUGLAS Gardner Carton & Douglas has elected two new partners in the D.C. office. Joseph Carlin, 38, is a member of the corporate law group. He received his J.D. from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law. Maureen Hardwick, 37, is a member of the pharmaceutical group of the health law practice. She received her law degree from Washington University School of Law. HUMANE SOCIETY Jonathan Lovvorn has joined the Humane Society of the United States as head of the newly formed Animal Protection Litigation Section. He will focus on the enforcement of animal protection laws. Most recently, Lovvorn, 35, was a partner at Meyer & Glitzenstein. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and his LL.M. from the Lewis and Clark Law School. MAYER, BROWN, ROWE & MAW Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw has elected four new partners in the D.C. office. David Gossett, 35, specializes in Supreme Court and appellate litigation. He received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School. Geofrey Master, 50, concentrates his practice in the area of corporate law. He received his J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law and his LL.M. from New York University School of Law. Andrew Nicely, 37, concentrates his practice in the area of litigation. He received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Arthur Walker, 33, concentrates his practice in the area of tax transactions. He received both his J.D. and his LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center. STEPTOE & JOHNSON Steptoe & Johnson has promoted three attorneys to partner. Brian Heberlig, 33, previously an associate in the firm’s litigation department, specializes in white collar criminal defense. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Gwendolyn Prothro, 32, also formerly an associate in the litigation department, has additional practices in insurance and products liability. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School. Matthew Yeo, previously a senior associate with the firm, is in the international department specializing in international trade and arbitration and electronic commerce and technology.
