AMERICAN COLLEGE OF REAL ESTATE LAWYERS Venable partner Philip Horowitz was named president-elect of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He will serve a one-year term beginning in January and then take over the presidency in 2006. He currently serves as vice president of the college and as a member of its board of governors. At Venable, Horowitz focuses his practice on property acquisition and development, commercial leasing, and real estate financing. FEDERAL BAR ASSOCIATION William LaForge, a D.C.-based partner with the Texas business law firm Winstead Sechrest & Minick, has been elected national vice president of the Federal Bar Association. LaForge is a member of Winstead’s political consulting and lobbying arm, the Winstead Consulting Group, and its government relations practice. The FBA is the professional organization for private and government lawyers and judges involved in federal practice. It seeks to enhance bench and bar communications, provide education to federal practitioners, and act as a liaison to the public. SEDONA CONFERENCE Robert Greene Sterne, founding director of the intellectual property firm Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, received the “Award for Excellence in Advanced Legal Education” at the Sixth Annual Sedona Conference on Patent Litigation.
