San Francisco Shartsis, Friese & Ginsburghas elevated Alan Robinto partner in the real estate group. Robin joined the firm in 1998 after eight years as associate general counsel at MetLife. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1974. South Bay Morrison & Foersterhas named Kenneth Kuwaytimanaging partner of the Palo Alto office. Kuwayti has been the head of the litigation department for the office for four years and succeeds Karl Kramer, who has been managing editor since 2001. Kuwayti has experience in a wide range of commercial litigation and with a variety of industries, including computer software and hardware, Internet and biotechnology. He received his J.D. in 1989 from Stanford Law School. The Palo Alto office of McDermott, Will & Emeryhas been selected by the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo for its November/December 2004 Pro Bono Award. The office’s involvement with Legal Aid is in coordination with the firm’s Kid First program focused on representing children in need. The program includes pro bono representation in the area of guardianships. East Bay Mehlman TerBeekin Walnut Creek has added Barry Millerto its staff as a civil litigation legal assistant. Miller has more than 30 years’ experience as a civil litigator in New York. Sacramento Barbara Brennerand John McKinseyhave joined Stoel Rives. Brenner, joining as of counsel, previously was with Meyers, Nave, Riback, Silver & Wilson. Her practice focuses on water resources and water quality issues. Brenner received an LL.M. from Pace University School of Law in environmental law in 1993 and a J.D. from McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific in 1989. McKinsey is experienced in providing guidance in environmental compliance and regulatory matters. He previously was senior counsel at Livingston & Mattesich where he served as lead counsel for the siting of major industrial development projects in California.
