AMERICAN COLLEGE OF BOND COUNSEL Richard Weiss, managing partner of Foley & Lardner and chair of the firm’s public affairs practice group, was elected president of the American College of Bond Counsel by its board of directors. The counsel was formed to promote professional and ethical responsibility in the municipal finance practice. Members are selected by invitation and must have at least 10 years of experience in bond law. ASSOCIATION OF TRIAL LAWYERS OF AMERICA Douglas Fierberg, partner at Bode & Grenier, has been appointed chairperson of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America’s national litigation group, “Schools: Violence, Misconduct, and Safety.” The group, which Fierberg co-founded, focuses on improving legal services to victims of school violence. The Association of Trial Lawyers of America has 56,000 members and provides information and professional assistance in protecting victims’ rights. GOLDEN TRIANGLE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District has elected Glynn Key of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, and Earl Segal of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, to sit on its board of directors for the fiscal year 2005. The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District is a D.C. neighborhood organization that represents more than 4,000 businesses and 40 residential blocks, supplementing basic city services in such areas as hospitality, homeless outreach, capital improvements, public safety, and maintenance. PAN AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT FUND Ruth Espey-Romero, partner at Greenberg Traurig, has been named president of the Pan American Development Fund, a nonprofit organization that works to increase opportunities for the disadvantaged in Latin America and in the Caribbean and to provide immediate disaster assistance.
