SAN FRANCISCO Squire, Sanders & Dempseyhas added two litigators, Mark Goodmanand Ethan Miller.Both Miller and Goodman came to the firm from Barger & Wolen and focus their practices on complex commercial litigation, IP, environmental law and high-end insurance coverage matters. Miller will also work from the Palo Alto office. Goodman received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1991, and Miller graduated from UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law in 1991. Nicole Harris, in-house counsel at Pacific Gas & Electric Co., has been elevated to vice chair of the corporate counsel committee of the business law section of the American Bar Association. Harris also is a 2004-05 Business Law Section Fellow. Five fellows are selected annually to recognize substantive contributions of young business lawyers. She received her J.D. in 1995 from Boalt Hall School of Law. Morgan, Lewis & Bockiuspartner D. Ward Kallstromhas been elected to a four-year term on the Council of the Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association. The council is comprised of top labor and employment practitioners who govern operations and establish policy for the labor and employment section. Kallstrom focuses his practice on fiduciary advice and litigation regarding pension, medical and other types of employee benefit plans. John Rea, acting director of the California Department of Industrial Relations, has been inducted as a fellow into the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. As acting director of the DIR, Rea oversees the state’s occupational safety and health workers’ compensation, wage and hour, apprenticeship and other programs, as well as 2,600 personnel. Rea previously served as the department’s chief legal counsel for 22 years. SOUTH BAY Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentleyhas added Vivek Vishwabhanas an associate in its San Jose office. Previously Vishwabhan was in-house counsel at HCL Technologies, an Indian software development conglomerate. He will practice in the areas of commercial litigation, corporate, IP and international law. Vishwabhan earned his law degree from the Campus Law Centre at the University of Delhi in 1989. Morrison& Foerster’s Brian McAllisterhas been appointed co-chair of the corporations committee of the State Bar business law section for 2004-05. McAllister is of counsel in the firm’s corporate finance group in Palo Alto. He is a graduate of Hastings College of the Law. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Carol Schanerhas joined the Newport Beach office of Gordon & Reesas a partner. A certified tax specialist, Schaner specializes in taxation, estate planning, nonprofit tax-exempt organizations and charitable giving. Previously Schaner was senior counsel with Quinlivan Wexler. She earned her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.
