AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION William Coleman Jr., a senior partner at O’Melveny & Myers, is this year’s recipient of the John Marshall Award from the American Bar Association Justice Center. The award recognizes individuals responsible for extraordinary improvement in the administration of justice. Among his many accomplishments, Coleman assisted Thurgood Marshall in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case and was the secretary of transportation under President Gerald Ford. COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS James Bacchus, chairman of Greenberg Traurig’s global trade practice group, was elected to be a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. The council is a national organization that works to help individuals better understand the world and foreign policy choices facing the U.S. government and others. D.C. APPLESEED CENTER The D.C. Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, an advocacy organization that brings together attorneys and other experts to develop recommendations for reform in D.C., has named four new board members: Sheldon Cohen, counsel at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius; Lois Schiffer, partner at Baach, Robinson & Lewis; Stanley Spracker, partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges; and James Hammond, director of the federal outsourcing group at Deloitte Consulting. MINORITY MEDIA TELECOM COUNCIL Georgetown University Law Center professor Angela Campbell was recently inducted into the Minority Media Telecommunications Council Hall of Fame. Campbell, the director of the Law Center’s Institute for Public Representation, was recognized for her role in bringing a successful court challenge to the Federal Communication Commission’s decision to relax media ownership rules. MISSOURI BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION Gregg Skall, a partner in Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice’s telecommunications practice group, was the recipient of the 2004 Friend of Missouri Broadcasters Award from the Missouri Broadcasters Association. The award recognizes a nonbroadcaster who has demonstrated consistent support to the broadcasting industry in Missouri. SOLID WASTE ASSOCIATION Charles Henck, a partner in the D.C. office of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, was a speaker for the Solid Waste Association of North America’s Web conference on July 21.
