FIVE ELECTED TO STATE BAR BOARD Three women and two men have been elected to the State Bar Board of Governors. Jeffrey Bleich, 43, a partner in the San Francisco office of Los Angeles’ Munger, Tolles & Olson, won the District Four seat, which encompasses Marin and San Francisco counties. An adjunct lecturer at Boalt Hall School of Law, Bleich is a former president of the Bar Association of San Francisco. The District Three seat, which covers Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, went to James Scharf, 43, in-house counsel for the California State Automobile Association. An adjunct professor at San Jose’s Lincoln Law School, he is the secretary of the Santa Clara County Bar Association. Ruthe Ashley, 57, director of career services for Sacramento’s McGeorge School of Law at University of the Pacific, took the District Two seat, which comprises Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Napa, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma, Tuolumne and Yolo counties. The two District Seven seats, both covering Los Angeles County, went to Jo-Ann Grace, 57, co-owner of L.A.’s Metropolitan News-Enterprise, a legal newspaper, and Marguerite Downing, 45, a public defender in L.A. County and president-elect of California Women Lawyers. The elections of Ashley, Grace and Downing ensure that the 23-member Bar board will continue to include female lawyers this year. Each new member will serve for three years. — Mike McKee
