San Francisco Denis Shanagherhas joined Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scrippsas a partner. Shanagher, whose practice includes extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, errors and omissions and construction defect work, has practiced law in San Francisco with an emphasis on real estate since 1981, most recently at Brydon Hugo & Parker. He is a 1981 Hastings College of the Law graduate. Gordon & Reeshas added commercial real estate partner Bruce Boydin its business transactions group. Boyd comes to the firm after several years with a large New York-based financial services institution where he served as in-house counsel for its real estate and corporate finance department. He is a 1973 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law. Gordon & Rees also has added a new senior counsel, Patrick Callahan, to its health care practice group. Callahan represents the health care industry in medical negligence and elder abuse claims. He received his J.D. from New Jersey’s Seton Hall University School of Law in 1984. Allen Matkins Leck Gamble & Malloryhas added four associates: Emily Lane Kennedy, Mark Mengelberg, Gary Slobodaand Aileen Wu Viorel. Kennedy joins the firm’s land use, environmental and natural resources practice. Previously with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, she received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2002. Arriving from Pillsbury Winthrop, Mengelberg joins the finance and capital markets and real estate practices. He is a 1998 graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law. He also received an LL.M. in real property development from the University of Miami School of Law in 1999. Sloboda joins the land use, environmental and natural resources and real estate practices after a stint at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold. He earned his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2000. Viorel joins the firm’s litigation practice. She previously was with the HS Law Group in San Jose and Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich. She is a 1999 graduate of UCLA School of Law. Morgan, Lewis & Bockiushas expanded its labor, employment and employee benefits practice with the addition of D. Ward Kallstrom Jr. and Nicole Diller. Both bring expertise in employee benefits, including fiduciary counseling and litigation on behalf of employers, pension and welfare and benefit plans and plan administrators. Kallstrom and Diller previously practiced at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. Kallstrom is a graduate of Duke University School of Law, and Diller is a graduate of Stanford Law School. Leo Murphy Jr. has been appointed chair of the product liability and mass tort practice group at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis. Murphy, who serves as managing partner of the San Francisco office, coordinates product liability litigation in the U.S. and overseas for domestic and offshore manufacturers. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Law. Elizabeth Cabraser, of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, has joined the National Center for State Courts’ Lawyers Committee, which involves prominent practicing attorneys in the center’s court reform programs. Cabraser specializes in consumer protection, international and human rights issues, personal injury/torts, defective products and securities and financial matters. South Bay Tomlinson Ziskoin Palo Alto has elevated Charles Haleyand Robert Whyteto partner. Haley, an associate with the firm for two years, has broad experience as a transactional attorney, focusing on the technology sector. He is a 1995 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. Whyte joined the firm a year ago as special counsel. He has more than 17 years of experience representing foreign and domestic corporations in a variety of matters involving business, commercial, construction and technology-related disputes and litigation. Whyte received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1987. Southern California Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnoldhas expanded its employment practice with the addition of partner Joseph Kouriin Los Angeles. He will also have an office in San Francisco. Kouri concentrates on general business litigation, with an emphasis on employment and trade secret law. Previously he was with Bononi & Kouri and is a graduate of Cornell Law School. Donna Joneshas joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hamptonas special counsel in its real estate/land use and natural resources practice group in San Diego. Jones, most recently with Latham & Watkins, has extensive experience in all aspects of land use and entitlements, including environmental law, municipal law and project development. She received her J.D. in 1990 from the University of Texas School of Law.
