AMERICAN HEALTH LAWYERS ASSOCIATION Kathleen McDermott, a partner in Blank Rome’s health law and white collar practice groups, has been named vice chair of the American Health Lawyers Association’s fraud and abuse, self-referrals, and false claims practice group. In this capacity, McDermott will work to enhance legal education on federal and state fraud and abuse laws for attorneys in the health care industry. ASSOCIATION OF PAROLING AUTHORITIES Edward Reilly Jr., chairman of the U.S. Parole Commission, was the recipient of the Ben Baer Award from the Association of Paroling Authorities International. The award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to advancing parole and community supervision. Prior to his appointment to the commission, Reilly served as a Kansas state legislator. BAR ASSOCIATION OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY The Bar Association of Montgomery County has named John McCarthy as its next president. McCarthy is the deputy state’s attorney for Montgomery County, Md. GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY Arthur House, a partner in the D.C. office of Chicago’s Gardner Carton & Douglas, has been named an adjunct professor at Georgetown University. House will teach licensing, business transactions, and enterprise formation in Georgetown’s master’s degree program in biotechnology. GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY LAW CENTER Georgetown University Law Center has honored outgoing Dean Judith Areen with two gifts to recognize her 15 years of service to the university. One is the Judith Areen Endowed Scholarship Fund; the other is the endowed Paul Regis Dean Chair, which Areen will hold after she steps down as dean. WASHINGTON EMPLOYEMENT LAWYERS ASSOCIATION The Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association has named employment and civil rights attorney Douglas Huron Trial Lawyer of the Year.
