San Francisco Farber & Companyhas elevated Brenda Teigto partner and added Jason Weissas an associate and Roger Rozekas of counsel. Teig will continue her practice representing Amaru Entertainment (estate of Tupac Shakur) and other clients in their intellectual property litigation. She is a 1997 graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law. Weiss, formerly with Best Best & Krieger, represents real estate clients in transactional and litigation matters. He received his J.D. from McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific in 2000. Rozek represents corporate clients and will join the firm’s plaintiffs personal injury and medical products device practice area. He is a Seattle University School of Law graduate. Shannon Minter, the transgender attorney, activist and scholar, and currently legal director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, has received an honorary degree from the City University of New York School of Law. At NCLR, Minter oversees national impact litigation in the areas of family, youth, employment, elder, immigration and asylum law. South Bay McDermott, Will & Emeryhas added Jimmy Shinas a partner in the firm’s IP department in Palo Alto. Previously at Shearman & Sterling, Shin focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, with an emphasis on patent litigation. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Fred Hjelmesethas joined the Law Offices of Stephen Bendain Menlo Park as an associate. Most recently at Hopkins & Carley, Hjelmeset will continue to focus on commercial litigation, bankruptcy and insolvency. He earned his J.D. in 1996 at Hastings College of the Law. East Bay The Alameda County Bar Association Volunteer Legal Services Corp. has named Elizabeth Clarkvolunteer of the year. The Wendel, Rosen, Black & Deanattorney was cited for her efforts in providing legal services to low-income landlords in Alameda County. Her work with low-income landlords is being provided in conjunction with East Bay Community Law Center attorneys who assist low-income tenants at the Low-Income Eviction Project. Southern California Naoki Kawadahas joined Greenberg Traurigas of counsel in the corporate department. He will be director of the firm’s Japanese practice group in Los Angeles. Kawada specializes in providing corporate and securities counsel to Japanese clients. Previously he was an associate at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey and is a University of San Diego School of Law graduate. Pillsbury Winthropassociate Seth Levyhas received the first annual Paul Davis Memorial Award from the University of Southern California Law School’s Public Interest Law Foundation for his pro bono efforts. Levy, a 2001 graduate of the law school, practices in the area of intellectual property law, focusing on patent prosecution, technology licensing and client counseling in the biotech and health care fields.
