ARLINGTON COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION Alexei Cowett, of counsel in the Tyson’s Corner, Va., office of Greenberg Traurig, has been named to the Arlington County Economic Development Commission. The EDC is an advisory board that provides leadership and strategic guidance for economic development in Arlington County, Va. CHADBOURNE & PARKE Chadbourne & Parke sponsored the newly re-established Washington Foreign Law Society’s Justice Robert H. Jackson Award. The annual $2,500 award honors the best student article or note addressing a topic of international or comparative law published during the last year. This year’s winner was Harlan Grant Cohen from New York University School of Law. GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY LAW CENTER Georgetown University Law Center honored the achievements of four of its female graduates at its annual Women’s Forum on April 2. The honorees were Devarieste Curry, a former partner at Beveridge & Diamond who is now a partner at the Curry Law Firm; Marianne Keler, executive vice president and general counsel for Sallie Mae; Martha Kendrick, a partner at Patton Boggs; and Susan Oldham, a tax attorney at the Law Offices of Susan S. Oldham. The women received the Law Center’s Alumnae Award for their contributions to the legal profession, their communities, and the Law Center. JAMS FOUNDATION Kenneth Feinberg, special master of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, was honored with the JAMS Foundation Distinguished Public Service Award. Feinberg received the award at a ceremony on April 16. The JAMS Foundation provides financial assistance for conflict resolution initiatives with national and international impact. PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA Paralyzed Veterans of America announced the winners of its first legal writing competition. Candidates were asked to respond to the question: Should members of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals be required to qualify as administrative law judges? The winners, who were announced at a ceremony on April 14, were Bill Henry, a law student at Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, and Liza Davis, a Davidsonville, Md., attorney.
