When Paula Terifaj purchased a Palm Springs condominium in 1995, she was told that the complex had an informal policy prohibiting pets. Terifaj moved in anyway and brought along her pet dog. That infuriated members of the homeowners association, who took Terifaj to court and won a ruling upholding the ban. On Tuesday in Los Angeles, the case will be heard before the California Supreme Court, with both sides claiming that a loss would be devastating.
