SAN FRANCISCO Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmarohas added Michael Yakias a partner. Yaki, a former San Francisco supervisor, joins the firm’s government, land use, environment and energy practice. Yaki, most recently a partner at Duane Morris, focuses on governmental and administrative affairs, telecommunications, water and energy law, land use, government relations and public affairs. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1986. Thomas Rothhas left his position as special counsel at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton to form his own practice — the Law Offices of Thomas D. Roth. His practice includes land use, coastal development permitting and litigation, wetlands, water and air quality regulation, and airport noise disputes. He is a 1988 graduate of UCLA School of Law. Bassi Martini & Blumhas expanded its public sector law practice with the addition of Gregory Rolenas partner. Prior to joining the firm, Rolen served as a deputy district attorney, deputy attorney general and as senior associate with California public entity law firms. Rolen received his J.D. from McGeorge School of Law. The board of governors of Public Advocates Inc. has appointed Jamienne Studleypresident, effective May 1. Studley has served as general counsel of the U.S. Department of Education, president of Skidmore College and associate dean of Yale Law School. She is currently scholar in residence at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in Palo Alto. A public interest law firm, Public Advocates was founded in 1971. EAST BAY The Oakland city attorney’s office has added Farimah Faizas deputy city attorney in the land use practice area. Faiz returns to Oakland after five years of practicing municipal law. Most recently, she was an assistant city attorney for the city of Livermore. She is a 1988 graduate of Hastings College of the Law. SOUTH BAY Latham & Watkinshas added technology transactions partner Glenn Nashto its Menlo Park office. Nash focuses his practice on intellectual property, providing strategic IP and technology transactions counseling to mature and emerging-growth companies. Previously, Nash practiced with Cooley Godward. He is a 1988 graduate of the University of Saskatchewan. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Jeffrey Wortmanhas joined Steefel, Levitt & Weissas a litigation partner in its Los Angeles office, which has more than doubled in size in the past seven months. Wortman specializes in labor and employment law. Prior to joining Steefel, he was with O’Melveny & Myers. He received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. Tom Baldwinhas joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hamptonas the firm’s chief knowledge officer. Based in Los Angeles, Baldwin was most recently with Foley & Lardner.
