San Francisco Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass has added two associates: Clinton Todd joins the litigation practice; and Kathleen McCallister, the corporate practice. Previously with Gordon & Rees, Todd represents clients in matters involving breach of contract, antitrust, unfair competition, IP and business tort claims. He earned his J.D. from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College, in 2000. McCallister’s practice focuses on general business transactions and securities matters. Formerly with Latham & Watkins, she is a 2001 graduate of Stanford Law School. Merri Baldwin has been elected chair of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s litigation section executive committee. The Rogers, Joseph, O’Donnell & Phillips partner practices complex commercial litigation and defends attorneys against malpractice and other claims. Hastings College of the Law has named Farella Braun & Martel partner Deborah Ballati its 2004 Alumnus of the Year. With Farella since 1977, Ballati has maintained a broad civil and commercial litigation practice with an emphasis on construction and insurance coverage matters. Nationally recognized in her field, Ballati is a fellow in the American College of Construction Lawyers and sits on its board of governors. She is a 1975 graduate of Hastings. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe litigation of counsel Harmeet Dhillon has been named to the executive committee of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Northern California chapter. The Northern California chapter is the largest in the U.S. Dhillon earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1993. Sacramento Mark Uyeda has been appointed chief adviser to the commissioner of the state Department of Corporations. Uyeda most recently served as counsel in the Los Angeles office of O’Melveny & Myers. He is a 1995 graduate of Duke University School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation. Southern California Former environmental prosecutor Shirley Edwards has joined the San Diego office of Gordon & Rees as senior counsel. Edwards will be a member of the firm’s environmental and toxic tort group. She comes to the firm from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District where she was assistant counsel. Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker has appointed employment law specialist Elena Baca to chair of the firm’s Los Angeles office. Baca represents a wide variety of clients in all aspects of employment law, employment and wage and hour litigation and management training. She received her J.D. from the Notre Dame Law School in 1992. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. attorney Laura Tunberg has been promoted to vice president, intellectual property enforcement. Tunberg is MGM’s representative on the committee overseeing the Motion Picture Association’s worldwide anti-privacy programs. She is a 1994 graduate of Santa Barbara College of Law.
