San Francisco Thomas Cervantez has joined Davis Wright Tremaine as a partner in the firm’s corporate finance practice. Previously a Thelen Reid & Priest partner, Cervantez concentrates his practice on securities, capital structure planning, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, venture financing and licensing transactions for emerging growth companies, venture funds and software and hardware computer companies. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Baker & McKenzie has added Julie Rumberger as a partner in its Global Equity Services practice group. Rumberger joins the firm from PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she was a director in the equity planning practice. She received an LL.M. from Villanova University School of Law in Pennsylvania. White & Case has elected Jon Doyle a partner and has added a new of counsel, Jay Gould. Doyle represents multinational companies and financial institutions in international tax, securities and related regulatory matters. He is a 1993 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law. Gould represents public and private investment funds, investment advisers, broker-dealers, banks and other financial institutions in securities, product development and regulatory matters. Previously he was chief counsel for E-Trade Global Asset Management. Denise DeMory is joining Howrey Simon Arnold & White as a partner as of April 1. Most recently she has had her own firm, DeMory & Grigg. For more than 10 years, DeMory has litigated and tried a number of intellectual property and antitrust cases. She is a 1993 graduate of John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Allen Matkins Leck Gamble & Mallory has added Bruce Hyman as of counsel in its capital markets and real estate finance group. Previously with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, Hyman is a 1957 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law. Edward Duckers has joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton as a partner in the antitrust and trade regulation practice group. Duckers’ practice encompasses the full range of civil antitrust and commercial litigation. He is a 1985 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Steefel, Levitt & Weiss has elevated Edward Stevens “Steve” Atkinson Jr. and Ashley Dunning to partners. Atkinson, who works in the real estate practice group, joined the firm in 2001 from Baker & McKenzie. Specializing in land use and development law, he graduated from Georgetown University Law Center. Dunning, working in the litigation group, focuses on commercial, public agency, trust, pension and probate litigation and counseling. She is a Hastings College of the Law graduate. Sideman & Bancroft has elevated commercial law and litigation attorney Michelle Landry to partner. Landry, who joined the firm in 1998, formerly was with Graham & James. She received her J.D. from UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law in 1997. Trial attorney Ralph Alldredge, formerly with Legal Strategies Group, is joining Preston Gates & Ellis as a partner. Alldredge represents clients in a broad range of civil cases, including patent infringement, antitrust, trade secrets, business torts, product liability and unfair competition. He is a 1968 graduate of Columbia Law School. Hinshaw & Culbertson partner Robert Romero has been appointed partner-in-charge of the San Francisco office. He has been a partner with the firm for six years. Romero maintains a national defense practice emphasizing complex litigation as well as professional liability matters. East Bay Retired Alameda County Superior Court Judge Demetrios Agretelis has joined JAMS. Judge Agretelis has served as an arbitrator and mediator since he retired in November 1999 after serving for 20 years on the bench. He is a 1964 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law. Rudloff Wood & Barrows in Emeryville has added Rhys Cheung as an associate. Cheung’s practice focuses primarily on the defense of insurers in bad faith suits involving both personal and commercial policies. She received her J.D. in 2003 from Hastings College of the Law. Sacramento The Diepenbrock Law Firm and The Hartmann Law Firm have entered into a strategic alliance and are now “of counsel” to each other. The new alliance is expected to enhance the ability of the two firms to provide specialized legal and consulting services to clients in Sacramento and San Joaquin counties and surrounding areas. Kevin Collins has been named a partner at Best Best & Krieger. One of the founding members of the firm’s Sacramento office, his areas of expertise include land use, business and construction litigation. He is a 1996 graduate of McGeorge School of Law at University of the Pacific. Southern California Gordon & Rees has added two employment lawyers to its San Diego office, Robert Murphy and Paul Sorrentino. Both have an emphasis in the hospitality industry. Previously Murphy and Sorrentino were with Stokes & Murphy. Townsend and Townsend and Crew has added Jonathan Jobe as a partner in its San Diego office. Jobe previously served as head of Pillsbury Winthrop’s San Diego intellectual property group. Jobe’s practice focuses on electrical, mechanical and computer-related patent prosecution. He received his J.D. from the University of Houston in 1976.
