New Associates The Philadelphia office of McCarter & English has announced that Kevin J. Burke has joined the firm as an associate in the bankruptcy and creditors’ rights practice group and that Erika J. Doyle has joined as an associate in the products liability practice group. Burke represents financial institutions and corporate entities in all aspects of bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Doyle concentrates her practice in the areas of mass tort, products liability and employment discrimination cases. New Office The law firm of Earp Cohn announces the move of the firm’s principal office in New Jersey from Westmont to its new location at 20 Brace Rd., fourth floor, in Cherry Hill, immediately off Route 70. The firm also maintains an office in Philadelphia. The move, prompted by the need to expand office space due to the growth of the firm, occurred on Monday, March 1. Speakers Mark H. Gallant, chairman of the health law department at Cozen O’Connor, will be speaking at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s 10th annual Health Law Institute on March 18 on “Voluntary Disclosure and Repayment and Confidentiality of Self-Audits.” Additionally, on April 1 at the annual Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues conference in Baltimore sponsored by the American Health Lawyers Association, Gallant is scheduled to present the “Annual Medicaid Litigation Update.” David Gitlin, a partner at Wolf Block Schorr & Solis-Cohen, recently returned from a trip to Israel with other lawyers from the firm. On Sunday, Feb. 15, the Export Institute held a conference titled “Raising Money: Business Funding Sources in Israel.” Gitlin was a panelist and fielded questions about private and public sources of funds. On Feb. 16, the firm co-sponsored a conference titled Market Opportunities in U.S. Homeland Security, for which Gitlin made introductions. On Feb. 17, the firm took part in the second annual Law/JOBS conference. Gitlin presented “The Business of Practicing Law.” Thorp Reed & Armstrong partner Barry L. Cohen spoke at a seminar titled Intellectual Property in Business Transactions, hosted by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Cohen also helped plan the course, which was held in Philadelphia on Feb. 20. Cohen is the partner in charge of the firm’s Philadelphia office as well as a member of the firm’s commercial and corporate litigation practice group. Cohen concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial and business litigation and intellectual property, including trademark and copyright infringement. Honored Thomas D. Paradise, a partner in the litigation department of Fox Rothschild, will be awarded the Certificate of Honor by Temple University’s Law Alumni Association at its annual founders dinner to be held on April 17 at the Convention Hall in Philadelphia. The award is being presented to Paradise in recognition of the many contributions he has made to the law school. It also recognizes his leadership as president of the law school alumni and the innovative programs he has instituted for the benefit of the law school. Elected and Appointed Kalogredis Sansweet Dearden & Burke, a health care law firm in the Philadelphia area, has announced that Vasilios J. Kalogredis, a shareholder and officer of the firm, has been selected as a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association media response team in the area of health care law. Seminar The Pennsylvania Bar Institute and the trial division of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas will present Preparation and Settlement in a Day Forward Environment, a continuing legal education seminar, on Monday, March 22, at the CLE Conference Center, Wanamaker Building. A panel of experts will explain how best to approach and accomplish one of the program’s main objectives: early settlement of cases. Registration for the seminar begins at 8 a.m., and the program will conclude at 1 p.m. The program encompasses all major civil jury cases except mass tort cases in Philadelphia. The cost is $39 for 4 credits.
