New Additions White & Williams has announced that Rick Grimaldi and Christine Russell have joined the firm as counsel in the firm’s commercial litigation department. Kenneth Grear and Marshall Schattner have joined the firm as associates in the subrogation/property department. New Counsel Jeffrey A. Cohen, a member of the litigation practice group at Flaster Green-berg, has been promoted to counsel at the Cherry Hill-based law firm. Cohen, who joined the firm as an associate in January 2002, represents business clients in cases involving commercial litigation, employee benefits and ERISA disputes, construction and surety litigation, insurance coverage claims, real estate, and trademarks and copyrights. Speakers Thorp Reed & Armstrong partner Barry L. Cohen spoke at a seminar this month titled Intellectual Property in Business Transactions, hosted by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Cohen also helped plan the course, which was held in Philadelphia on Feb. 20. Cohen is the partner in charge of the firm’s Philadelphia office as well as a member of the firm’s commercial and corporate litigation practice group. Cohen concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial and business litigation and intellectual property, including trademark and copyright infringement. Richard M. Heller of Media, Pa., was the speaker at the monthly meeting of the Diversified Real Estate Investor Group at the LuLu Shriners Temple, Plymouth Meeting, Pa., On Thursday, Feb. 26. Heller spoke on the topic of “Tax-Deferred Real Estate Exchanges Under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code.” Bradley M. Campbell, the commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, was the featured speaker at an environmental briefing sponsored by Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at The Mansion in Voorhees, N.J. Honored The nonprofit Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts has been named the recipient of fourth annual Philadelphia Chapter Heroes Award. The Philadelphia chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Inc. presents its Heroes Awards annually to honor outstanding individuals and institutions in the Philadelphia region that have improved the environment for the creative community. The gala will be held April 26 at the Hyatt Regency Penn’s Landing, 201 S. Columbus Blvd. Elected and Appointed Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads chairman Stephen A. Madva has been elected chairman of the board of governors of Philadelphia’s St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. The New Jersey Technology Council has announced that Peter A. Gold, partner at Blank Rome, has been named chairman of NJTC’s public policy committee. Gold will lead and help shape the direction and focus of the committee, which serves as a liaison between the private sector and the New Jersey Legislature and executive branch. Gold represents businesses in commercial, real estate, and labor and employment matters. Seminar The Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel is offering Recent Developments in Insurance Bad Faith Law, a continuing legal education seminar presented by R. Bruce Morrison of Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin, on March 16 in the Library Lounge of the Union League beginning at 12:15 p.m. One substantive CLE credit is offered.
