To the tax man, Geoffrey stands for Geoffrey Inc., the Toys "R" Us Inc. intangible holding company, an entity that collects royalties and other payments from the toy retailer's own outlets. Some states worry about red ink on their books when local outlets make hefty payments to these intangible holding companies -- and are launching a new wave of attacks.
