Famed securities fraud litigator William Lerach agreed earlier this week to lead giant pension fund CalPERS into a federal court in Manhattan in hopes of waging war against the New York Stock Exchange. But his first skirmish will be with partners at the East Coast operation of his own firm, Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach, which has been in the process of splitting in two. Lerach's entry makes it likely the firm's two offices will battle each other for the lucrative role of lead counsel.
