San Francisco Hanson Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudy has received the Drucilla Stender Ramey Law Firm Diversity Award from the California Minority Counsel Program. The award criteria include recruitment, retention and promotion rates of attorneys of color, the support of and participation in CMCP and ethnic minority bar associations, and the establishment of a law firm culture that values diversity. Steven M. Plevin, a partner at Nixon Peabody, has been named head of the firm’s regulated financial institutions team. His practice focuses on community banks and bank holding companies. Plevin received his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law. South Bay Fernandez & Associates of Menlo Park has added two associates. Jaya Nair received her J.D. from Widener University in 2000. She has extensive experience in prosecuting patent applications in semiconductor processing, electrical and electronics arts. Doris Chen received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and received a High Tech Certificate in 2003, specializing in IP and patents. Michael Lacovara is leaving his position as partner at Sullivan & Cromwell where he has managed the firm’s Palo Alto litigation practice for three years. He is joining Sandler O’Neill, a New York investment banking firm, as general counsel in February. Lacovara has specialized in litigation and regulatory matters for companies in the financial services, high-tech and biotech industries. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School. Sacramento Trainor Robertson has added Denise Donovan in the business litigation and property management and bankruptcy group and Elana Ribman in the litigation group. Donovan previously was with Weintraub Genshlea Chediak and Sproul. She earned her J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law in 2002. Ribman was a judicial extern to U.S. District Judge John S. Rhodes. She graduated from Syracuse University College of Law in 1997. Southern California Lino Lauro has joined Hogan & Hartson’s Los Angeles office as counsel practicing in the corporate group. Lauro recently was a senior associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson. His focus is in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity and finance. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School. Erwin J. Basinski has opened a patent prosecution and counseling practice in Santa Barbara. Basinski formerly was of counsel at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco and in-house patent counsel at Sun Microsystems. Allen Matkins Leck Gamble & Mallory San Diego of counsel Yvonne Dutton has been appointed a lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. The main responsibility of the lawyer representatives is to act as a liaison committee to assist the court in improving the administration of justice and to the implement the goals and programs of the annual Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. A member of the firm’s litigation group, Dutton received her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1991.
